ICT in the news, contemporary stories.

ICT in the news has become a regular feature, not only does it make news daily online, but recent stories such as BlackBerry being down for a few days captivated the headlines, with people all over the world being infuriated people throughout the world. The stories from ICT can be from many perspectives, and cover a vast range of topics to do with ICT.

ICT in Hospitals(BBC news story)
ICT in hospitals is a recent story, in which people are beginning to campaign for people to use ICT in computer to make it easier and quicker to get work done. The hospital has argued the case that ICT in hospitals would have alerts when to give the patients the medication which would mean a decrease in the amount of people forgetting to give their medication. This has been used by a hospital and they saw a decrease in forgotten medicine given, it decreased by 50%, they now estimate that they could save 16,000 lives a year by using ICT in hospitals. Not only does ICT allow them to be notified to do medicine but it can alert people from throughout the hospital if there is a serious problem with the patient, in the hospital it has been used, it seems to be working very well. Using ICT within hospitals is a good way of improving patient healthcare, to make it faster and easier to use.

BlackBerry’s technology fails
Recently the news highly covered the fact that the majority of BlackBerry users were faced with a failure in BBM, internet browsing and the BlackBerry email, essentially everything internet based failed and at the time BlackBerry could not do anything about it for the few days. The services which are only used by BlackBerry such as BlackBerry email and BlackBerry messenger(BBM), were down for around 3 days, this caused a lot of problems and for the 3 days BlackBerry were slow about getting it back working. BlackBerry faced a lot of criticism for the problem, and although they tried to find a solution, it took a lot of time for them to fix the problem. However due to the inconvenience and trying to apologise to the owners, they offered their customers free app’s to try and regain their trust.

A truly inspirational man within the ICT world- Steve Jobs
When Steve Jobs died on the 5th October 2011, ICT lost one of its main figures. Jobs was an innovative and clever man, who not only brought a brand to such a well known name, he also brought amazing ideas and products to the technology world we live in today. He made Apple what it is today, and he will be sadly missed. People throughout the world paid tribute to him, he was inspirational throughout the world. It is said he left a few years of ideas as well, he was forever dedicated to his job.
